Game Tables

A game table is a welcome, fun filled addition to most any home. With the wide variety of game tables available, it is highly likely that with a little research, any consumer can find the perfect one to suit his or her needs. From a simple yet elegant chess or checkerboard, to a customized table with multiple interchangeable surfaces, the choices are seemingly endless.

As with most products that come in such a wide variety, you’ll find that pricing also varies greatly. For example, depending on the type of game you have selected, some game tables may come with an electronic scoreboard. Touches like this can add to the expense. Some tables may convert from a regular table into a gaming surface. Some retailers offer custom options. Again, depending on the options selected, you’ll find a wide range in pricing. Whether you are shopping for a foosball table, an air hockey table, a shuffleboard table, a poker table, or any other type of game table, you will have many to choose from so do your research carefully. First, determine which type of game or games your table should offer. Next, determine the amount of space available in the area where you intend to keep the table. Another important consideration is the other décor in the room where your game table will reside, as you may want something that matches or compliments your existing décor. Armed with a little research, you’ll be able to find the perfect table for your home.

If you’re ready to make a game table purchase, the first decision to make is what type of game to choose. Foosball tables, shuffleboard tables and poker tables are some of the most popular tables sold. Each of these types of tables can be found in a variety of styles with a variety of options.

For those considering foosball tables, know your list of features before shopping. Some tables come with telescoping rods that do not protrude out of the other side of the table. There are models available with folding legs, allowing for a more portable gaming table. Depending on where the table will reside, you might prefer a model with side ball returns, or you may prefer ball returns on each end. Depending on your furniture décor preference, you’ll find contemporary looking models and models with an old world feel sporting Queen Anne legs. Be sure to try out any model you are considering, to get a feel for the action and the configuration of the men on the table.

Shuffleboard tables come in several lengths usually starting at nine feet in length, but may be as long as 22 feet. These tables are narrow, with the narrowest being typically 15 or 16 inches wide. The professional width is 20 inches. Many retailers of shuffleboard tables offer customizations like color schemes, various types of wood and electronic scoring options. Some offer a removable bumper system, allowing for more game variations. Because of the narrow, rectangular shape of these tables, they are popular for rooms where a larger, wider game table will not fit.

Poker tables are increasingly popular, as they can be a very versatile piece of furniture. Many come with table tops that can be converted to a normal table top, allowing the table to be used in multiple ways. Some even have a bumper pool option, as the shape lends itself to that type of versatility. Consider models with recessed chip holders and drink holders. These tables are available in virtually any wood finish, from pine to cherry to mahogany so you’ll be able to select one to fit in with any décor. In many cases, you can also choose from a variety of felt colors for the playing surface. Some are Texas Holdem style, which is a more oval shape. Others are a more traditional round or octagon shape. Because poker tables are the most traditionally shaped of any game tables, they are typically the most portable. In fact you can even purchase the table top alone for use on top of an existing table. Because of the wide variety of options, you’ll find some very economical choices in the type of game table, leaving you money for accessories.

If you simply cannot decide on one type of game table, be sure to check out the convertible options. As mentioned above, a bumper game table is frequently combined with a poker table. Some manufacturers offer rotating or flip table tops, offering three or more games within the same table. If you are considering one of these multi-use tables, be sure to determine where the additional game pieces and table tops are stored. Those that can be contained within the game table unit itself won’t require additional storage in your home.

With any game tables purchase, be sure to see what type of warranty, if any, is offered. Ask questions about the assembly required. For tables that have more complex or electronic components, determine what type of service is available in your area. Most importantly, prepare to enjoy your purchase and have hours and hours of fun!

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Seoul, Korea Rep. by TravelPod blogger Mchavez titled "Week 7-8 blog entry, sight-seeing, 5 nights" Mchavez's travel blog entry: "Seoul seems like a blur, after only a week in Vietnam. I barely can remember how we spent our time there, but let me try: We spent quite some time walking around the city, visiting the different king`s palaces and such. On our first day we involutarely arrived at one of them right when the changing of guards occured. Well, it`s kinda cool seeing that, but it just happens for the tourists (with explanations being read through huge loudspeakers in three different languages). In the vicinity of our hotel we also found a quite big market, where you could buy everything from clothes to food. I used this opportunity to buy me a beanie, since I was freezing my ears off in that weather. In the evening it actually started to snow, which wasn`t to our liking, but at least it didn`t held up the next day. To stay warm, the next day we visited the Lotte World Adventure & Shopping Mall. Somehow they`ve managed to build a whole amusement park inside the mall, as well as an icerink, numerous restaurants and a shopping mall. We went bowling (I was played pretty strong, but the computer **** up so I don`t know my final score), played air-hockey in the arcade and had a good lunch at TGI Friday`s. The third day consisted of walking around the main tourist quarter (next to a US army garrison), but since we can`t ...

Different  manufacturer offers something a little different in their tables. An example would be the width, is it four players or two players.  Also the tabletop colors and designs vary. Usually they're blue or white and the table may or may not be painted to look like a real ice rink. Another fun feature is electronic scoring. Some cheer and boo while others only tell the score and have overtime play features. That is what makes them utterly irresistible among families

There wouldn't be craploads of roleplaying conventions if roleplayers weren't looking for something in there. Regardless of whether it can be offered or not, they are, at least, looking.

Roleplayers are pretty much defined by playing roleplaying games, so making that option available to them would seem like a reasonable course of action.

Perhaps we can postulate some sort of critical mass of game tables that begins to attract gamers by wealth of choice? Maybe it's an advertising thing and not enough roleplayers simply knew? Who knows?

Ah the much hated rules lawyer. No other player at the game table is more of a pariah than he. I'm someone who at game tables ends up being appointed the role of "rules guy", so I've been called this at one time or another. Usually I'm that person at the table who the DM has assist players new to the game with the rules so the DM can focus on actually running the game, though in few cases I've been someone the DM has wanted to be their "living reference" or someone the DM has look up something he wants looked up so he doesn't have to.

But being "rules guy" is really a thankless position. If you're assisting new people with rules and such it's all roses until you tell them something negative, like their ability doesn't do what they think it does for example, and now you just have someone upset at you. I really hate getting this task and really wish the DM would do that sort of thing, because people get less-angry at the DM for that sort of thing, but at every campaign it gets assumed that because I generally have a good handle on the rules I'll be "rules guy" again. (Maybe it's all that customer service and tech support experience.) And I can't think of a DM who once he's gotten me to be "rules guy" ever wants to take up that task ever again.

And of course it's even worse when the DM wants you to assist them on the rules. Thankfully that usually only happens for a few sessions until they get the hang of the system, but some friends, while I love their DMing, have sort of come to the conclusion that they don't really need to attempt to get a basic grasp of the rules because hey, "Furluge is familiar with them and he'll just guide me through it." -.-; I mean, asking someone to help you with the rules is fine, but being asked by the DM to teach the DM during the game is kind of imposing. I mean, that's not really fun. I want to play the game, not be asked to spot check the DM, which lets face it, never really works out well anyway.

Thankfully I haven't had to be "rules guy" for a while, as generally the people I play with know the rules well enough that they don't need a "rules guy", which is great, because there's no pressure and I can focus on playing or socializing. But well since I also play at and help run RPGA events I still sort of get stuck with this duty every now and again.

"Rules guy" is your friend. "Rules guy" probably is tired of being "rules guy" and would much rather just be "guy". (Or gal)

There's an error in group D. For the Pakistan vs Scotland game, the tables tab shows Pakistan played 2 games (won 1, lost 1) but Scotland played 0 games. The group tab shows the correct result though.

In my opinion the best foosball table is a tornado. However, they can be kinda expensive. So it depends on how much you wanna spend. You can buy an older model table for cheaper. An older model table in good condition may run around $500 on ebay or craigslist not brand new.
