If you have heard the ear splitting sound of an air horn, you already know what it is! It is a device which produces an extremely loud noise which works on air pressure. They have been used mostly in emergency vehicles owing to the fact that they produce very high noise and can attention easily. However an average road user does not require such high decibel sound and these are installed just for the fancy for it. In some countries it is not allowed to use air horns for ordinary vehicles and even having them installed is an offence. Elsewhere, the jurisdictions of roads where such high decibels of sound cannot be used are clearly demarcated. High sounds are usually prohibited where there are hospitals, schools and courts. Even in high security areas air horns may not be permitted to use.

In addition to being used on vehicles, these are also used in factories for warning workers. You can find air horns in mining areas and construction site, again being used as a warning device. Smaller versions of such horns can also be used for personal safety. Children especially love to use the small air horns to create the high decibel sound. These smaller versions are portable and will fit easily into a travel bag. It is believed that caring for ice skates is not at all a time consuming job, but it definitely needs consistency and attention to detail. One must give proper care to a pair of skates if they are to last for a while. It is possible that your expensive skates get ruined within weeks or months if they aren't taken proper care of.

When you are off the ice and still wearing skates, ensure that you wear plastic or rubber skate guards over skate blades without fail. Skate guards help to protect the blades from hard surfaces and grit that quickly ruin a well-sharpened blade. Also, keep skate guards at the edge of the ice and place them on your skate blades even if you are off the ice for a few steps.

A vital point to remember is that when not using skates do not leave skate guards on the blades. Guards are solely meant only for walking and should be placed on your skates only for a short span of time. They will trap moisture in the skate blades even when you are not near ice.
Since skates get constantly exposed to moisture when you are skating, skate blades need immediate and careful maintenance. Once your skate blades begin to rust it gets difficult and almost next to impossible to repair the damage. The best cure for rust is prevention.

Experts are of the opinion that skate blades should be manually dried immediately after skating. When the moisture is removed from ice skates, cover the blades with fabric blade covers. Ensure that you never use plastic or rubber skate guards. It is important to understand that skate guards are designed for walking only. They will be able to trap any remaining moisture. It is observed that a professional quality fabric ice skate cover is designed with an absorbent lining to remove any remaining moisture from the metal blade. They are padded to cushion the skates when carried in a skate bag.

At home, do not store skates in a travel bag. Ensure that they are removed from the bag immediately so that both the leather and the metal parts can air dry. It is also advised that you loosen the laces and pull the tongue of each boot slightly forward. You can also lay the skates on their sides on a dry towel so that they do not touch. Allow them to air dry in a place where they are exposed to light. But ensure that they are not placed under direct sunlight and are away from any heat source. If they are placed under direct sun, the skates may possibily dry out and the leather will crack.
